The Next New Thing

Image result for images new

The next new media is something involving more life like interactions. I have seen prototypes of virtual interaction with the body, what I mean is whatever body motion you do, technology translates it into the real world. For example, video game consoles like X-one and Wii U have created technology that involves body movement in order to accomplish something in the virtual world. This is something I see happening. Currently a lot of meeting are done thru video conferencing. The next new media can make you feel like everyone from across the world is in the same room with more advance technology that currently exist.  The link below shows how someone hacked the video kinect and it able to control items on his screen with simple body movements. I see new media heading in this direction.

Our Class Wiki - So Far

Image result for wikis

Create a new post on your blog with the above title. In your post, discuss the following.
...what you have been doing to contribute to our class wiki. Pages you have created and/or edited. Describe in general terms content you have added. If you have not added any content yet, then at least describe the research you have done and what you are working on towards this goal.

The wiki's portion of the class has defiantly developed. I have been doing some research, since I am big fan of soccer I always feel I need to be connected to the digital world. In the 2008's, to watch a game online was very hard, to watch it on yourself was next to impossible. Now, T.V. networks have noticed that it has become something that they have to do in order to stay updated with the rest of the world. The networks realized that they were loosing alot of traffic because site like VIPBOX.com and Pirlo.tv were using third party website to stream soccer games. ESPN has developed there own app watchESPN, NBC created NBC live sports, Fox created FOX sport 1 app. There are many more apps created specifically targeted to get back the users that are going to other sites.

P2P File Sharing

  1. What is file sharing?
    1. File sharing is to share file in a community. For example, a website like 4 shared is a place to share file. A user uploads a file to the website, than another user can download the file as whenever he/she wants to download the file.As described in the article by Eric Pfanner, Rapid share is one of the biggest form of file sharing. Rapidshare, is a file hosting serice that allows users to upload large files that cannot be send thru email.
  2. What is P2P File sharing?
    1. P2P file sharing is an acronym, meaning Peer to Peer sharing. In this situation, there is no "middle man" and either user can communicate directly. Within this communication, the users can can share files and folders among-st each other
  3. What are some examples of P2P file sharing?
    1.  One of the largest P2p file sharing was Limewire. Limewire was shutdown a few years ago because of its large amount of traffic it brought in and the amount of illegal file sharing was at an all time high. The next P2P software are torrents. torrents allow the users to directly download and upload files. They are referred to as a seeder and a leecher.

Privacy & Confidentiality

Privacy & Confidentiality

Privacy in the online world is basically, once you put it out there it can never be fully deleted. I have a great personal example, twitter. I once misspelled word on twitter and deleted the tweet. i don't what came to my head my decided to google the tweet. To my surprise, my tweets were on other websites and the deleted tweet was still there. It was on more the two website and there were probably on more websites. What I didn't think about was that twitter might have a contract with other websites to allow the tweets to go other place. In a sense to have a privacy online is really difficult. Aside from you personally giving out personal information, there are other people trying to take your personal information. Bots exist in every social website. Bots are not real accounts as they you can tell when you are speaking to someone and they are not real. These bots have different purposes as to try and make sign up for a website or obtain credit card information. What they all have in common is to get personal information.

Advice to Baruch College

Advice to Baruch College

New Media outlet is something of the recent 20 years and I think Baruch College has to a certain degree taken advantage of the New Media. Baruch College is a not for profit college, therefor it's stream of revenue comes from the State and city budget. Baruch college depends on the enrollment of student, there must tried to advertise its strength. While Baruch college does have a twitter and Facebook accounts, Baruch should be paying attention to other outlets as well. Just like any other social network they can be gone is year. Myspace is a great example was they were once the dominating website and to big sup rise to everyone it disappeared. While Baruch shouldn't just and create accounts on every social network available because there are failures, like google wave and google +. Baruch should pay attention to growing social outlets

Creativity and New Media

Displaying _20151104_151214.JPG

The image attached is my avatar in a video game called Grand Theft Auto. The video game is one of the first games that allowed life like interaction getting detailed about a city for example New York and incorporating it in the game. The new game releases have been more about getting the community more interactive like having a live market stock exchange, creating its own social network within the game and allowing the user to operate many viechels. My avatar in a sense looks normal, but online i was suprise as to how creative the people can get

New Media definitely help promote creativity. New media is like a the exploring a new world. We are living in a time period where anything done online can be regarded as a first. One great example is a wedding. Weddings can be regarded as something very traditional, something that cannot be altered because its a tradition. JK's wedding is something created by creativity. The creators of the video said they uploaded the wedding video because they wanted the rest of the family who weren't able to attend the video to enjoy they wedding ceremony. Little did they know that the video would go viral currently having over 90 million views and being parodied in many t.v. like the office which is one og my favorite shows. The video created has definitely cause the couple to rise to fame

Modeling Reality with Virtual Worlds

What are different ways these virtual worlds can be used?

Virtual worlds do exist and they exist in may ways. In the article by Diane Mehta, she says a virtual world like mine craft exists for kids, to let their imagination do anything, I have smaller cousins, and when i see the things they created on mine craft is really impressive. Virtual worlds exist for older people like the sims and the Video game console Grand theft Auto. The game grand theft auto 5 really is an open world. What i found the most interesting thing about this virtual world , is the stock exchange, while the market is controlled by the game developers, I have had friends who really got into the the way which stock will make money and in a virtual environment have gotten rich.

What are the pros and cons? Be specific.
 Pros:
-Work can be done from anywhere and any time
-easy access in developed countries
-most training can be self taught
- work at a self control environment

Cons:
- As stated in the CNN article by Mark Tutton, water cooler talk at a virtual office will be eliminated along with with socializing and conversations forgot to be brought up during a meeting
- Cost of creating a virtual world can be expensice
-technology can be experimental and may cause down time and not allow people to work
-the lack of physical communication can cause people to miss the proper physical communication

How do virtual worlds foster creativity?

In real life I can say we aren't as creative because we know that we will have real life consequences if we try something new and doesn't go our way.

What do you think the future of virtual worlds will look like?

I think the virtual worlds are going to be more realistic. I have watched headgear created used for games, the movement of the players and into the virtual avatar was so accurate. This was the the game changer for me.

BLOG: Social Networking Sites

BLOG: Social Networking Sites

Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and vine are all social network sites. All of them have one common thing, they all cause interaction within a community. Twitter became famous with the 140 characters or less, while Instagram at first was a place to post only pictures and then later involving videos service. Vine started with something similar to twitter a short video limiting it to  seconds. Facebook on the other hand is more of a combination of all of them. Facebook in my opinion is the most complex if all of them. The most complicated in that the settings for facebook is much larger that the rest of the competitors

Blog v Wiki

Image result for blog vs wiki

Wikis ans Blogs are the same, they both provide information to the users. Both allow all users to input their information and ides. While the Blog's allow this in a form on commenting the wiki's allow by letting the users actually edit remove and input their own information. I feel that wikis is a more collaborative source of information because of the format of a wiki. A wiki layout makes if look more easier to navigate and find the specific source of info, but because it allows users to remove and add their own information, the credibility of wiki can be weakened. While blog style also allows in users to input their information, they are not allowed to remove content placed by the blogger.
